About The Divine Language...

The Divine Language is a fictitious language created by Luc Besson and Milla Jovovich for the film ‘The Fifth Element’, released in 1997. The original language has been reported as consisting of over 400 words and was apparently extensive enough that Besson and Jovovich were able to carry on entire conversations in Divinianduring the filming of the movie. The language seems to have many influences, ranging from Japanese and French to Eastern European and Indian. There are several internet sources for Divine Language translations, but none are complete, and most are obviously speculative and lacking in clarification.

This Guide, while still incomplete (with just over 300 words and phrases), offers a more extensive, albeit inevitably speculative, translation guide AND possible pronunciations of all Divine Language words available on the internet, that I have found thus far. Existing translations were respectfully borrowed from other sources, and are cited herewith under the Sources heading. Those words and phrases for which I could not locate an established definition, I have made an educated guess as to their translation, and I am open to suggestion and correction.

Ideally, my goal is to complete the Divine Language dictionary, so if anyone has any knowledge of its existence, or can offer new words to be added, please contact me via the contact information in my profile.

T.
